Products We Love

These products are ones we use with our own pets, our clients' pets, and have been recommending over the years.  Sam has worked as an ambassador with some of these brands in the past and continues to trust them although there is no current affiliation.  New items may be added in the future as we remember old favorites, or after we test out newer products.  If you have questions or suggestions, please reach out! Sam is known as a true MacGyver and is always thinking of new ways to repurpose items for enrichment.

DIY Enrichment...

packing peanut image

Packing Peanuts (non-styrofoam)

Packing peanuts made with biodegradable plant based starch. Great for any animal to forage through or just dig around in.  Especially loved by ferrets!

packing paper image

Packing Paper

Safer/cleaner alternative to printed newspaper.  Small animals love jumping in crinkled paper and benefit from foraging in it.  Great for birds to unwrap to get to their favorite pellets and Nutriberries!

straw hat image

Mini Straw Hats

Small shreadable doll hats.  These are great for birds! I hang them in the cages, or leave them unattached to be picked up.

Packing Peanuts (non-styrofoam)

Biodegradable plant based starch packing peanuts in fun shapes and colors! These are so cute and fun to use when you are getting bored of the biodegradable white tubes.

wiffle ball image

Larger Wiffle Balls

Baseball sized plastic wiffle balls.  Great to use for foraging activities, especially with larger birds! I easily modify some hole sizes with a dremel if needed as well. Birds love to throw these around too!

baby bottle basket image

Foraging Container

This baby bottle dishwasher basket is so versatile! We hide Nutriberries in it and other food items, or just shredded paper for the birds to pull out.  Some birds have figured out how to open it, and that's fun too! **One of my all-time fave hacks over the years!

Quick Links

Stainless steel links to hang your diy and bought toys. These are a bit more sturdy and also nice to use to secure cage openings! The M3.5 size option is what I use and are smaller, but the large ones can be used as well.

crinkle cut paper image

Crinkle Cut Paper

This recycled/non-toxic paper is so fun to forage in! Just remember to not use it in a way to encourage nest building with your birds! Here, we never encourage egg laying due to the associated medical and behavioral issues!

cardboard image

Cardboard Discs

Sold as replacement cat scratchers (without catnip), but are great as shredding and chewing toys for small animals and birds.  We hang these and use the corrugation to hide small food items!

busy tubes image

Busy Tubes

These "finger traps" are great to use for foraging or busy shred toys. They are often incorporated in with store bought bird toys, but  are very versatile!

Skewers

Easy to use for food items (especially veggies and fruit), or shredding items. Add tiny cardboard boxes to make foraging toys out of these.

foraging pillow images

Foraging Pillow

These are super easy to use to hide food items and toys! They come as flat cardboard pieces and are super quick for a fast enrichment idea.

Enclosures...

carrier image

Small Animal Carrier

These are my favorite small animal and small bird carriers! Doskocil Cabin Kennels are not being made anymore, but they can be found on ebay etc. Perfect for perches and for vet techs to reach in and safely get the animal out when at the vet.

playpen image

Playpen with Bottom Liner

Another great enrichment/foraging area and easy to clean with the removable bottom liner. This stays out all the time also, but can be easily put away.

playpen image

Playpen

Great to use for small mammals when doing enrichment/foraging activities! We just leave ours out all the time, but it can be collapsed and stowed away.

For Us Caretakers...

levoit image

Levoit Air Purifier

We have several sizes of these throughout our home and it has lessened the work our a/c filter has to do!

chomchom image

ChomChom Roller

This hair remover is famous for a reason!

vinegar image

Vinegar

Safe cleaning alternative to bleach. We use this to remove hard water stains in water bowls and especially our turtle aquariums.

wired blink image

Blink Camera Wired/Indoor

We have been using these cameras to watch our animals for years! Love these newer small wired ones so you don't have to change batteries.

indoor blink image

Blink Camera Wireless/Indoor

Love these cameras for oddly placed views away from an outlet. Make sure to use lithium batteries, and they will work well for years and years!

outdoor blink image

Blink Camera Wireless/Outdoor

We love and trust these in our catio, even in the humid florida weather, these have lasted. Again, make sure to use lithium batteries!

super clean image

Goo Cleaner

I have so much fun cleaning/dusting nooks and crannies of our house with this goo! Works well to get rid of dust on appliances in the bird room! Sold for electronics, but I use it on everything.

air blower image

Reusable Compressed Air

Favorite new cleaning item from last year! This recharges, has variable speeds, and lasts for hours. I go around our house and dust with this and then vacuum! It's like a mini leaf blower! Great to get to hard to reach areas to remove seed husks, feathers, dust, and bedding!

yoga mat image

Yoga Mats

For over 10 years I have bought these cheaper yoga mats and put them under the bird cages and bird hang-out spots to easily clean up dropped food, water, and poop.  Love that they are reusable and wipeable. These can be cut to the needed shape as well.

Keep On Hand...

Critical Care

This can be a true lifesaver and is an emergency necessity for any type of herbivore.  If your rabbit, or guinea pig stops eating and cannot be taken to the vet right away, syringe feeding them this ground hay mixture is a must.    This can also be taken with them to an emergency clinic that may not typically see exotics and wont have this on hand.  Talk to your exotics veterinarian about feeding instructions.

60ml Feeding Syringe

Many feeding syringes do not have a large enough tip to use with the herbivore critical care. As a veterinary nurse I highly recommend using a catheter tip syringe like this for syringe feeding the ground hay. Talk to your exotics veterinarian about feeding instructions.

Clotting Aid

Own a bird? This can help stop bleeding for the unfortunate event of a broken blood feather! There are several steps to stop the bleeding, including using a product to aid in clotting.  This is an easy clotting aid to have on hand.  Talk. to your avian veterinarian about the steps to help stop blood loss.
